Basler Jumbo Packet setup for ACE

Updated March 30, 2026

Depending on the camera model, resolution, and network setup, at times a red flag indicating an error may be seen on the Basler camera. In addition, an error of “Buffer Incorrectly Grabbed” may be displayed. This issue is not typically seen every time a picture is taken, but rather every other or every few times an acquisition occurs. It is possible that this is caused by the network packet size being too small.

When packets are dropped, the driver detects this and asks the camera to resend the packet. But if the trouble is severe, even this does not succeed, and the packet is lost forever. This results in the "Buffer incompletely grabbed……" error. Typically packet sizes of ~500 are too small when dealing with large images that naturally consist of lots of data.

Note that for this you need to make sure as well that you have a Gigabit Ethernet Port being used at the PC.

ACE Side setup

Under the Basler Pylon device within your ACE Workspace, change the packet size from Auto (default) to 9012

Windows adapter settings

In Windows go to “Network Connections” settings find the Ethernet adapter used to connect with Basler Camera. Right-click on the adapter and select “Properties”

In properties, find “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Select it and then click on ”Configure…"

Go to the “Advanced” tab and find “Jumbo Packet”, select it and then change its value to 9014 Bytes.

Click “OK” to complete the procedure

Basler Camera Settings

Open “pylon Viewer (x64)”

Connect to the camera

Once connected to the camera, select “User Set 1” under “Configuration Set Selector”

Make sure that “User Set 1” is also set as the “Default Startup Set”
